CNGL Tutorials

CNGL run regular research-related tutorials and workshops. CNGL ran a number of free tutorials and workshops in 2009 which all researchers in the relevant areas are invited to attend.

Examples of tutorials are:

Joint ICT CSETs "Best Computer Science Thesis" Award 2010

CLARITY, CNGL, CTVR, DERI and Lero are taking part in a competition for the best doctoral dissertation of 2009 in a software related discipline. DERI are running this year's competition. After an internal CSET competition, each CSET will nominate one candidate for the overall competition. More details to come.

DCLRS Seminar Series, CNGL and NCLT Seminar Series

The DCLRS seminar series, an international seminar series in computational linguistics, runs every Friday in UCD. The CNGL/National Centre for Language Technology (NCLT) seminar series takes place in DCU on Wednesdays. Both seminar series are aimed at CNGL, NCLT and other researchers and developers interested in language technologies. The seminars have approx. 30 attendees every week.

Localisation Research Centre (LRC) Best Thesis Award

In 2009, CNGL co-sponsored the 13th Best Localisation Thesis Award, sponsored by Symantec (a CNGL industry partner) since its inception. The LRC awards are the most valuable and longest established academic awards in localisation. The winner was Hany Hassan, who was supervised by CNGL PI Prof. Andy Way, for his thesis entitled 'Lexical Syntax for Statistical Machine Translation'. Hany was was co-supervised by Dr Khalil Sima'an of the University of Amsterdam, and was funded by SFI under their Investigator programme.

Localisation Research Centre (LRC) Best Scholar Award

The winner of the 2009 LRC Best Scholar Award was Ruwan Asanka Wasala (UL) for his proposal 'Localisation File Formats, Tools Compatibility and Format Conversion'.
