The Centre for Next Generation Localisation aims to make a substantial
contribution to communicate the joy and excitement of science, of
finding out about and attempting to understand the world around us,
to the general public. A significant part of the Centre's outreach
activities will be targeted at promoting the understanding and
appreciation of computer science and cultural issues by the general
public.
Programme Aims
Primary: To create a greater awareness of multicultural /
multilingual Ireland and to give primary school teachers the
opportunity to work with researchers and integrate our technologies
into the primary school curriculum.
Secondary: To combat the decreasing interest in science and
engineering using dynamics of language technologies and personalised
content and to give teachers the opportunity to work as interns with
researchers
Third Level: To promote and educate students in cultural and
linguistics challenges in localisation and personalisation and to
encourage undergraduate students to pursue further education at
postgraduate level.
Fourth Level: To promote partnerships between our students,
researchers and industry.
Public Outreach: To highlight the areas of Computer Science,
Language Technologies, Digital Content Management and Localisation
and to show how this research can benefit the public.
Commercial and International Outreach: To foster close ties with
localisation, language engineering and content management industries
and to highlight CNGL and Ireland internationally as a leader in
localisation.
CNGL Research Community Communication: To foster a vibrant CNGL
multidisciplinary research team and enable cross disciplinary
education and collaboration.
